Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiALN) Coating
Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN) is a thin film coating that was developed from Titanium Nitride. TiAlN offers higher temperature resistance as well as higher hardness, especially at higher temperatures. It is primarily used to extend the life of the cutting tool.
This coating works by forming a thin surface layer of Alumina (Al2O3), or Aluminum Oxide ceramic. As the layer wears it continuously reforms.

Titanium Aluminum Nitride TiAlN Coating
- Harder than TiN, harder than carbide, 3x hard chrome
- Enhanced temperature capability
- Extremely high hot hardness
- Strong adhesion bond to substrate metal
- Thin film typically 3 μm (0.000118”) thick
- Uniform coating with no buildup on edges
- Follows surface texture of the cutting tool
- Tools typically last 3 to 10 times longer
